Ms. Janie Weiss has extensive experience and expertise in information and system management and has managed the CIRC since 1987. Ms. Weiss is responsible for the Digital Alpha 2100 and its associated network. Between January 1987 and November 1993, thirty percent of Ms. Weiss's time was devoted to the CPMC Integrated Academic Information Management Systems (IAIMS) and related activities. This provided her with valuable experience with recent developments in campus networking, the work of the medical informatics group, and the on-line data available from clinical and basic research groups. She has maintained close ties with this group and meets regularly with many of its faculty members. Ms. Weiss is assisted by one Senior Systems Analyst/Programmer, a Systems Analyst/Programmer, a Bioinformaticist, a Senior Secretary/Graphics , and several students.
Susan C. KistlerMs. Susan Kistler, the Senior Systems Analyst/Programmer is a database expert and has a background in information management with emphasis on the storage and retrieval of patient data. She is responsible for developing and implementing the Comprehensive Cancer Center Information System (CCCIS) on our Digital Alpha Server. Ms. Kistler has over 15 years of experience researching, developing, and managing database applications. She is responsible for translating information into well-formed relational database models. She explores new tools and methods to improve retrieval techniques for patient and clinical data.
Dr. Richard Friedman is the bioinformaticist at the CIRC. He has a Ph.D. in
physical chemistry and 20 years of experience in theoretical and computational
biochemistry. He provides support in biological sequence analysis and computer
use to basic science users. He teaches classes, answers user questions, writes
manuals, trains users, develops the CIRCs bioinformatics capability by acquiring
new search packages, and performs sequence analyses on a consulting basis. Dr.
Friedman is expert in a wide variety of bioinformatics programs and has the
necessary background in biochemistry, mathematics, and computation to use them
intelligently.
In addition to her secretarial and administrative duties, Ms. Hairston-Corbett
has provided the Cancer Center with home pages and has done Web development
for individual Cancer Center members. She also produces the clinical protocols
booklet and the Cancer Center members publications listing.
